Genesee is a very residential neighborhood of West Seattle. With a variety of locally owned shops and cafes and single-family homes that have been owned by families for years or decades, it holds a "small town" atmosphere. You can see kids biking and playing on the street as well as couples enjoying an evening at a locally owned restaurant.

Ercolini Park- The park was redone a couple of years ago and now boasts an awesome place for kids to play.

Seattle Fish Company - Family owned by a local “fish monger” and best fish n’ chips in Seattle IMHO.

Shadowland- Whether you are looking for an intimate dinner, a place to meet friends for drinks, listen to live music, or just sit and watch the game, this is the neighborhood restaurant/bar to go to.

Hotwire Online Coffeehouse- A quaint cafe ran by a local West Seattle lady named Lora. The coffeehouse offers local coffee, wi-fi and a few computers on site, and warm camaraderie in West Seattle

West Seattle Work Shop- A gem that offers vintage and modern clothing, accessories and home goods.

Olympia Coffee Roasting- A few doors down from Work Shop, grab a pastry or beverage at this cafe that offers award-winning espresso and coffee.

The Genesee neighborhood and education have a positive relationship and the overall residential aspect of this neighborhood is very strong, so it attracts many individuals who want an ideal location to raise kids. However, there has been recent construction of apartment buildings going up near the junction of Alaska and California, creating a more inviting environment for young, working professionals.
